Adjective is a
word used to describe, identify, or quantify a noun or a pronoun. It gives more
information about the object signified.
Example: He is a kind boy.
Note: Kind is an adjective to describe the
noun- boy.
Five Types of Adjectives:
1. Interrogative Adjective
The words “which” and “what” are the
two interrogative adjectives and
are used in interrogative sentences
to modify nouns found in the question. It also modifies noun
phrases.
2. Adjective of Quality of Descriptive
Adjective
This is used to describe the nature
of a subject or a noun or showing the kind or quality of nouns or pronouns. They basically answer the
question of “what kind of?” in specifying the description of the subject or
noun.
3. Adjective of Quantity
This kind tells us the amount, or the
approximate amount, of the noun they describe. Adjectives of quantity are
extremely useful when describing things. Examples of adjectives of quantity are
most, any, many, and few.
4. Demonstrative Adjective
This helps indicate a noun or pronoun in
a sentence. It's especially helpful when you want to make it clear which person
or thing you would like to talk about, whether it's near or far, singular or
plural. Examples are like this or that.
5. Adjective of Number or Numeral Adjective
This kind
is used to depict either the number of nouns or their position
or place in a certain order. Adjective which
states the number of persons or things is called the Adjective
of Number or Numeral Adjective. Example: There
are five mangoes in the refrigerator.
